I put useful things in notes but cannot search them. Would be handy.

Started using the notes field for which client a profile belongs to. Simple but it has saved me a lot of guessing.

Once you pass ~50 profiles the names matter more than I expected. I have settled on client-platform-number. Interested in what others use.

Agreed, and I would put it more strongly: uniqueness is a side effect of being a real device, not a goal to chase. A machine that reports a plausible, internally consistent set of values — an OS that matches its fonts, a GPU that matches its renderer, a timezone that matches its IP — is unremarkable, and unremarkable is what you want. The rare combination stands out precisely because nothing else in the world is configured that way.

Both of those, and one more: decide what a group means before you make the first one. Group-by-client and group-by-platform are both defensible and mixing them halfway through is the migration you were describing. On the proxy point — checking before you create is right, and the country the profile ends up reporting follows the proxy, so an afternoon of profiles built on the wrong exit is an afternoon you redo.
